Taymour Grahne Projects presented Dalal Al Obaidi’s painting والله دنيا (Walah Dinya) as artwork spotlight of the month on their gallery's website.The work depicts a solitary man seated before a television, captivated by the dreamlike image of a female singer. Positioned between the familiarity of his surroundings and the unrealised possibilities represented on screen, he appears suspended in a private moment of longing, memory, and reflection. The singer’s presence extends beyond the television, reappearing within a plume of cigarette smoke. Her spectral freedom contrasts with the man’s physical and psychological confinement, blurring the boundary between what he watches, remembers, and imagines. Drawing upon Al Obaidi’s research into the history and visual language of Kuwaiti television, the painting considers the screen as a space where personal memory, collective nostalgia, identity, and aspiration converge. Its saturated reds, greens, and purples recall the luminous haze of archival television imagery, placing the scene within the unstable atmosphere of memory rather than documentation.
